Influences from books:The Big Sleep

The first time I knew about this story, it was because of the 1946 movie with Humprey Bogart. After that I decided to read the novel, and courtesy of my college’s library I read all the Philip Marlowe novels by Raymond Chandler.

The novel is not perfect and the plot is confusing, but it’s a great introduction to the P.I. Marlowe.
There are parallels between “The Big Sleep” and my fist story “Blackmail”, like well…the blackmail to a rich man and his crazy daughter.

But the greatest influence is the point of view. The narration of all the novels is from the P.O.V of Marlowe. Everything we read is as the P.I. experiences it.
Detective Fausto is like that too. He is in every scene. And the “flashbacks” are what people are telling him.
I recommend you to go and read any of the Phillip Marlowe novels.
I also have the comic adaptation.

Influences from books: No happy ending

Everything that has influenced my webcomic Detective Fausto

When I told my dad that I was making a comic about a mexican Private Detective, he asked me if it was like Belascorán Shayne. At the time I didn’t know about Paco Ignacio Taibo II, so I bought “No happy ending” and I loved it. Then I got the compendium.

Fausto likes too

Héctor Belascorán Shayne is an ingenier who quits his job and becomes a Independent Detective fighting for social causes.
Fausto and Belascorán share profession and an addiction to nicotine, but they are different approaches to life.
